East Rennell ---- World heritage
East Rennell is the island located most southward in the Solomon Islands and the biggest coral islands in the world. The land of 37km2 and the sea area three nautical miles away from the land are protected by UNESCO.
The Lake Tegano in the Rennell Island is the biggest lake (brackish-water) in the South Pacific that occupies about 20 percent of the area of the island and is assumed to be possessed by the local people , not by the government.
Moreover, this region is the tropical area almost covered with the dense fog due to the precipitation of 4,000mm or more a year. Many peculiar animals such as the Rennell big bat, sea anake, and snail are unique and never found elseswhere in the world. Moreover, peculiar palnts such as orchid and Pandanaceae are growing naturally.
